Russian scientists have developed a neural network for analyzing electron micrographs of melanoma cells. It reduces the processing time for one image from 20–30 minutes to about 2 minutes. This will make it possible to study more quickly the features of the tumor that could become targets for new drugs.

Studying cells under an electron microscope gives scientists a detailed view of their internal structure, but manually processing hundreds of images can take months. The new system automates this stage.

The neural network was trained on images of mouse melanoma and has already been turned into a web service. The next step is to test the technology on other tumors and human tissues.
