Japanese company Shoei has unveiled the world’s first motorcycle helmet with a fully integrated augmented reality system, the GT-Air 3 Smart. Developed together with French company EyeLights, it features a transparent HUD display that shows speed, navigation, calls and warnings directly on the visor at a virtual distance of three meters. According to the company, this reduces the rider’s reaction time by almost a third.

The helmet includes a nano-OLED Full HD display that remains bright even in sunlight. It also comes with an integrated audio system with a microphone, speakers and battery, support for Siri and Google voice assistants, and an intercom with unlimited range.

Shoei is the first to combine a HUD display, voice control and seamless integration into a single, safe and convenient helmet. Bringing AR into motorcycle helmets is, in effect, a step toward a motorcycle version of smart glasses: minimal distraction from the road, maximum information right in front of the rider.
