A train capable of departing from a station on its own, moving along the line, braking, opening doors, and turning around at the terminus has begun trials on the new Krasnoselsko–Kalininskaya line.

The driver still remains in the cab: he monitors the automation and intervenes in the event of an abnormal situation. The point of the technology is to transfer routine operations that can be performed according to an algorithm to the system, while leaving control to a person.

The trials are being conducted on the Baltiets train. The system is now undergoing testing in real-world conditions — this is what should show how reliably the automation handles the everyday operations of the metro.
