From 2028, the first high-speed rail service in Russia will be launched between Moscow and St Petersburg. The trains will cover the route in 2 hours 15 minutes and will run at speeds up to 400 km/h, with departures every 10–15 minutes. Construction will begin already this year.

A total of 43 modern trains will be put into service on the line, with the first 28 already available by the time the service launches. It is expected that more than 23 million people will use the new route in a year. The project should make travel faster and more comfortable while also being more environmentally friendly, and it is expected to support tourism and business and create new jobs.

Soon, it will be possible to travel from Moscow to St Petersburg in a little over two hours—faster than driving by car during peak traffic from work to home.
