Scientists at Cornell University have developed SpellRing, a ring that translates American Sign Language (ASL) into text in real time. The device is expected to significantly improve communication between people who use sign language and those who do not. It uses deep artificial intelligence algorithms and micro-sonar technology to track finger movements accurately.

SpellRing achieved recognition accuracy of up to 92%. Although the device currently recognizes only letter signs, the team is working to expand its capabilities. In the future, the ring may be able to capture other features of sign language, such as facial expressions and body movements.

This inspiring device breaks down communication barriers with people with hearing loss, just as AI previously enabled people who speak different languages to communicate fully.
