In the U.S. state of Utah, sales of home solar power stations in a plug-and-play format have officially started for the first time in the country. You only need to plug the system in.

Unlike traditional solar panels, the EcoFlow Stream setup does not require rooftop installation or approvals from utilities and other housing stakeholders: the panels can be placed on a balcony, and the battery can be kept in an apartment. The installation can export up to 1,200 watts to the grid. The device is protected against dust, moisture, and cold, and it can be controlled via a mobile app.

Over the past 10 years, similar solutions have become increasingly popular and have already been adopted in some European countries, as well as in China and Japan. In Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, these “balcony power stations” are actively subsidized. This helps make solar power more accessible for renters: panels can be temporarily installed on a balcony, removed when moving, and used without damaging the façade and without violating rental agreements.
