Japanese company Elecom has introduced Na Plus, the world’s first portable power bank based on sodium-ion batteries, which has now started selling.
With a capacity of 9,000 mAh, Na Plus is claimed to be enough for 13 years of daily use. Unlike lithium-ion models, the new device works in temperatures from -30°C to +50°C and is not afraid of overheating.
The device takes about two hours to fully charge, making it convenient for everyday use. It weighs 350 grams—slightly heavier and more expensive than typical models (about $67). The sodium-ion approach is presented as a safer and more sustainable alternative: sodium is described as cheaper, more eco-friendly, and easier to extract. As the technology develops, the price and size of such devices are expected to become more convenient and attractive for users.
