The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a new form of Leqembi for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease — Leqembi Iqlik, which can be self-administered subcutaneously using an autoinjector. The new product will become available on October 6, 2025.
Leqembi was previously available only as an intravenous infusion, which required visits to clinics. The new form makes it possible to receive the injection at home — just once a week and in 15 seconds. This is especially important for older patients and people living in remote areas.
Studies have shown that the new form not only reduces amyloid plaques in the brain more effectively (by 14% more than infusions), but also causes fewer side effects. At the same time, treatment is still under medical supervision — patients must undergo regular MRI scans.
Leqembi remains the only approved drug that targets the cause of Alzheimer’s disease, and it has now become much more accessible: disease progression can now be managed as simply as blood sugar in diabetes.
