At CATL’s plant in Luoyang, China, a humanoid robot has appeared that replaces people at one of the most difficult and responsible stages — the final assembly of battery packs for electric vehicles. Xiaomo, developed by the startup Spirit AI, performs precise and potentially dangerous tasks previously available only to experienced engineers. This is the world’s first large-scale production line with a humanoid robot involved at such a level of complexity.

The embodied intelligence technology allows Xiaomo to “understand” what is happening through cameras and sensors, responding to commands and changes in real time. The robot demonstrates accuracy above 99%, and the production line with its participation has increased in productivity by almost three times.

CATL remains the global battery market leader with a 38.1% share and is actively introducing innovations, including the release of new lithium iron phosphate batteries. Their combination with automation ensures lower costs and improved quality.

It looks like people will have to gradually get used to new robot coworkers — they don’t drink coffee, don’t gossip, but they certainly know what they’re doing.
