Chinese company UBTech introduced what it calls the world’s first humanoid robot, Walker S2, capable of autonomously swapping its own batteries. This means the robot can operate without human participation and without pausing to recharge, reducing downtime in production.
Walker S2 is equipped with two batteries and built-in tools. When one battery runs low, the robot goes to a battery swap station, takes out the depleted battery by itself, and installs a fully charged one. The approach raises automation to a new level: before this, such functions were either performed manually or used only on specialized devices such as drones.
It’s time to create a smartphone that can also drive itself to charge and come back.
