Researchers from Seoul National University and Gachon University developed PB (Particle-armored liquid roBot), a liquid robot that combines the flexibility of a liquid with the stability of a solid body. The work was published in Science Advances.

PB is a droplet of liquid covered with water-repellent particles. It can change shape, pass through narrow spaces, absorb and transport small objects, fuse with similar robots, and recover after impacts. The robot is controlled using ultrasound, which provides high precision in navigation and makes it suitable for tasks in biomedicine—such as targeted drug delivery—or in emergency situations where it needs to access hard-to-reach areas.
