At Aircraft Interiors Expo 2025 in Hamburg, Zeiss presented innovative “smart” glass for airplanes. The new feature lets flight information—route details, geographic landmarks, and navigation data—be shown directly on the surface of the window.
One of the key advantages is reduced aircraft weight by doing away with traditional partitions and displays. This can translate into fuel savings and lower harmful emissions, making flights more environmentally friendly.
The technology also offers a new level of comfort and interactivity for passengers and is being developed for pilots as well, in the form of augmented displays to improve navigation in poor visibility. These approaches may help increase safety and efficiency in air transport.
It could also provide a small distraction for passengers with fear of flying.
