OpenAI has launched a new ChatGPT mode, “Learn and Study,” designed for honest and intentional learning. It lets students receive step-by-step explanations of difficult topics without ready-made answers, helping them understand the material rather than simply copy it.
The tool was created in collaboration with teachers and education experts. It first identifies the user’s level of knowledge and their goal, and then selects the most suitable way to explain the topic. This approach helps not just to get an answer, but to understand the process of solving it.
The new feature comes as a response to the rise in cases of cheating with the help of AI: according to data from the UK, the number of such cases more than tripled over a year. The launch of “Learn and Study” is part of a broader process of rethinking approaches to assessment. The company acknowledges that the tool is not perfect, so critical thinking and contact with teachers remain important.
