Tom Cruise once again surprised: this time, he jumped with a burning parachute. And not just once—16 times in total. He did it for the eighth film in the “Mission: Impossible” franchise, “Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning,” whose filming took place in South Africa.
The height was a little over 2 km. Each time, the parachute was set on fire right before the jump, and Cruise had only a few seconds to avoid burning and to deploy the reserve parachute.
Guinness World Records recognized the stunt as unique—previously, no jump with a burning parachute had been officially recorded. The reason, as the source puts it, is that common sense usually prevails. But Cruise is not the kind who backs down: he prepared for the stunt for years, practiced the jumps, and even filmed with a camera on himself to make the result look as realistic as possible.
