The California startup Galactic Resource Utilization Space (GRU) has officially announced that bookings are open for the first hotel on the Moon. All it takes is $1 million and a bit of patience.
The project is led by 21-year-old Skyler Chan, a Berkeley graduate. The estimated date when the first guests will be able to step onto the lunar threshold is 2032. Construction is scheduled for 2029 and will use lunar soil.
The hotel is only the tip of the iceberg. The company says it does not want merely to entertain wealthy tourists, but to launch a lunar economy. In its latest strategic report, GRU laid out the whole plan: first the hotel, then a colony, and beyond that, who knows. Chan says he was inspired by childhood dreams and wants the Moon to become not just an object of observation, but a new address in a passport.
The project has already received support from serious venture investors. Private companies are increasingly looking upward — and not just to admire the stars. A moon hotel could become a real cocktail of science, romance, and investment.
