Russian students from Innopolis University have presented the world’s first perfume designed with objective universality in mind. The SD-1 fragrance (Synthetic Dream) was developed by a neural network that analyzed 40,000 formulas and user ratings from around the world in order to identify the most popular scent combinations.
Unlike traditional perfumery, which is based on subjective preferences, this fragrance is built on data about the tastes of thousands of people. It is already available as a room spray, and an eau de toilette version will soon follow.
The AI Spirit project proposes a fundamentally new approach: creating products that appeal to the majority based on an analysis of real preferences. This is the first time in perfume history that universality of a fragrance has not been claimed by marketers, but statistically confirmed.
