Horizon Aircraft conducted successful tests of the hybrid aircraft Cavorite X7, which for the first time in eVTOL projects carried out a stable transition from vertical takeoff to horizontal flight on wings with electric fans. The aircraft has 14 fans built into the wing structure; they are activated only during takeoff and landing.
The Cavorite X7 can reach speeds of up to 463 km/h and cover up to 800 km in a single flight, which is significantly more than existing eVTOL solutions. The aircraft is designed to be safe even with the failure of 30% of its systems, and the hybrid propulsion setup allows it to operate without major changes to city infrastructure.
The configuration enables flying from both runways and a limited landing area—for example, from a building roof. Noise levels are stated to be significantly lower than those of traditional helicopters, making it promising for the urban environment. The project has been in development since 2021, and its key feature is its maximum similarity to a conventional airplane. This is intended to make piloting and certification easier, bringing the technology closer to practical application.
