Humanoid robots are taking a serious step forward: they have learned to do things that only recently looked like an exclusive human privilege. Chinese Unitree G1 became the first robot to independently get up from positions such as lying down, sitting, or against a wall, and it also performed a side flip. Its 23 degrees of freedom help provide precise, coordinated movement.
Boston Dynamics demonstrated an updated Atlas capable of breakdancing and moving on roller skates. While it does not yet look entirely graceful, as a first step it is impressive. And startup EngineAI presented the PM01 robot, which for the first time completed a forward somersault. This is considered one of the most complex acrobatic elements.
The key to these achievements lies in new AI algorithms and learning based on human movements. Robots can now acquire skills simply by observing us—almost like a child learning about the world by watching adults.
