Chinese company Haier has unveiled the HIVA Haiwa home robot prototype. It is designed for household chores and can prepare simple meals, wash dishes, clean the apartment and even iron clothes.
The robot moves on wheels, has 44 degrees of freedom and can handle objects at heights of up to two meters. Its main advantage is integration with Haier appliances: HIVA Haiwa can switch on an oven, manage the cooking process and monitor the cleanliness of the home.
For now, it is only a prototype: engineers control it remotely in order to train the artificial intelligence. In the future, a transition to full autonomy is planned. At 165 cm tall and weighing 70 kg, it resembles a human and can perform a wide range of tasks.
If a household robot once seemed like science fiction, today it is becoming a reality. In the coming years, such developments may change everyday life: some routine chores could be safely entrusted to technology, freeing up time for family, rest and creativity.
