Instagram is launching new rules for teenagers worldwide. From now on, all accounts of users under 18 will be automatically moved to PG-13-rated content. This means a complete exclusion of 18+ material, regardless of individual account settings. Under the restrictions, adult content will become unavailable — including posts, ads, and messages with profanity, sexual themes, or violent scenes.

Previously, similar filters were applied selectively, but now they will cover all teens without exception. The measure will take effect soon and is aimed at improving the digital safety of minors.

The term PG-13 (parental guidance 13) is borrowed from the film rating system and means content suitable for teenagers over 13, but possibly inappropriate for younger audiences. The decision was made amid ongoing requests from parents, schools, and experts in digital safety. Public concern about the impact of social media on teenage mental health is growing, and Instagram is showing a readiness to act.
