Israeli researchers have developed an AI model capable of predicting lightning-caused wildfires with accuracy exceeding 90%.

Unlike fires caused by human activities, wildfires ignited by lightning are much more difficult to predict—especially in remote areas with limited meteorological stations. Existing methods reach only 50–70% accuracy.

The new model analyzes satellite data collected over seven years, as well as ecological and meteorological conditions, vegetation type, and humidity levels. It demonstrated high accuracy when tested on data from 2021 and can help prevent disasters even before they begin, which is especially important in the context of climate change.
