Norwegian company 1X has introduced NEO Gamma, a humanoid home robot. It does not only clean and handle household tasks, but also tries to become a genuine companion.

The device can speak with people and learn. A soft 3D-knitted suit helps reduce noise to the level of a refrigerator, and smooth movements do not disrupt the usual rhythm of a home. The robot can squat, pick up and carry items, make tea, and wipe dust using multi-purpose hands.

Artificial intelligence and a voice assistant let the robot support conversation, adapt to a family’s habits, and improve task performance over time. It can also recognize emotional tones in speech, responding with light rings on its head. In comments, 1X CEO Bernt Børnich said the robot was designed as a companion that can develop alongside people and help in everyday life.

The idea of getting a “plush companion” as a birthday gift already sounds like a reality for the years ahead. In the morning, it can quietly wake you, make coffee, move around the room with a vacuum cleaner, and not step on the cat’s tail.
