Yandex Maps and 2GIS are the first in Russia to implement traffic light signal display in the navigator. Drivers can now see in real time which signal is on and how many seconds remain until it changes, if a timer is installed — even when the traffic light itself is not in view. The new feature is already working inside the Garden Ring, on the Third Ring Road, and in a number of districts of Moscow. In the near future, the service will cover the entire capital and begin rolling out in other cities.
The data comes directly from smart traffic lights through automated systems. The information is available on iOS, Android, in Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and even on the locked screen via Live Activity and Dynamic Island on Apple devices. If the driver is rapidly approaching a red light, the navigator will issue a warning signal, and at a green light it will say that it is okay to go.
This is the first service of its kind, and it is already helping make driving safer and calmer. The developers promise further development — up to a “green wave.”
