In the UK, an innovative system has been developed for diagnosing and repairing water pipes. Tiny robots called Pipebots inspect pipes from the inside, spot hidden cracks and weak spots, send data to engineers in real time, and enable targeted and timely intervention.
Instead of urgent digging up roads and shutting off water, the approach focuses on early diagnosis and planned repair. Pipebots work autonomously, entering pipes through standard manholes, and can move through even complex parts of an old network without stopping the water supply.
This means fewer excavations, fewer bottlenecks, fewer water shutoffs and less loss. And there is no more sudden water outage at the worst possible moment—everything is planned.
