An American company, Alef Aeronautics, conducted successful tests of its flying car, the Model Zero: the vehicle hovered in the air for 40 seconds. This is the first model in the world to carry out vertical takeoff (eVTOL) without a runway for acceleration.
Engineers applied a unique solution: during flight, the car’s body rotates and functions as a wing. Its electric powertrain allows the vehicle to move both on the ground and in the air, over distances of up to 177 km. The main goal of the development is to relieve city traffic rather than enable long-distance trips.
Serial production is planned for 2025–2026, and about 3,000 preliminary orders have already been received. Advancing this technology will involve challenges such as safety, regulation, and creating new standards for integration with urban infrastructure. However, the idea of a flying car has moved beyond theory.
