Chinese scientists have set a new world record by transmitting encrypted images over a quantum communications link across 12,900 kilometers between Beijing and Cape Town. The transmission used the Jinan-1 satellite and two ground stations. The achievement was ten times greater than the previous record.

Chinese researchers have also unveiled a new quantum chip, Zuchongzhi 3.0, with 105 qubits. Its computing speed exceeds that of the best supercomputers by a factor of 1 quadrillion.

Quantum communications provide a high level of information security, making the technology particularly sought after by government agencies and financial organizations. This is especially relevant today, when we read news about another personal data leak almost every day.
