A Centaur artificial intelligence system has been developed that learned to predict human behavior in psychological tests with accuracy that is unattainable for older cognitive models. It is built on top of Llama 3.1 and was trained on data from 60,000 participants.

Centaur was able to guess people’s choices even in new conditions, showing approaches similar to real human behavior. It found that the brain uses a hybrid, multi-layer strategy of choice. Previously, psychology divided human behavior into simple approaches, but Centaur demonstrated that people make decisions by combining different strategies at the same time.

AI like Centaur could help make education and healthcare truly personalized by adapting to how a person thinks. It can make learning easier and faster, and in medicine it can support treatments that fit the person and take into account how they make decisions about their health.
