A British company, RML, has received government approval to begin mass production of VarEVolt batteries capable of recharging in just 18 seconds. This has been made possible by their distinctive technical characteristics: a charge coefficient of C 200 and a power density of 6 kW/kg—figures reported to be many times higher than the capabilities of even the fastest charging batteries currently available.
VarEVolt is already used in the hybrid hypercar Czinger 21C, and RML is also adapting the technology for upgrading supercars from the past. Thanks to its modular design, the batteries can be configured for different types of vehicles—from sports to commercial.
The certification allows RML to start mass manufacturing, moving beyond the elite segment. This is an important step toward speeding up the widespread transition to electric vehicles by removing a key barrier: long charging times.
It is striking to realize how quickly new technologies are developing—especially since just a couple of months ago we were looking at [5 minutes from BYD].
