Chinese researchers have developed the highest pixel density display in the world: 127,000 pixels per inch. For comparison, this is 37 times higher than the Apple Vision Pro headset and 270 times higher than the iPhone.

The size of each pixel is 90 nanometers, comparable to the size of a virus. Thanks to the nanopixel technology, the display achieves unprecedented image clarity: it becomes absolutely smooth, without graininess even when viewed at extreme magnification.

This is particularly important for microdisplays used in augmented and virtual reality devices, neurointerfaces, smart lenses, and medical applications. If smaller screens previously required compromises between size and quality, that limitation can now be reduced. For example, such a display could be integrated directly into a contact lens or used in vision-restoring eye implants.

A density of 127,000 PPI is not just a record—it lays groundwork for a new era of visual interaction.
