EHang, a Chinese company, has become the first in the world to receive full approval for the commercial use of unmanned aerial taxis. The Civil Aviation Administration of China has approved the start of flights of the EH216-S model with passengers on board. The first routes will open in Guangzhou and Hefei, where ticket sales for autonomous excursions are set to begin soon.
The EH216-S went through multi-year testing and has now been officially cleared to carry people. In the initial phase, the routes will be limited to takeoff and landing from one platform. Later, the company plans to expand service, including flights between different points within the city.
This development places China in the lead in autonomous urban aviation and opens new opportunities for the development of passenger transport in the future.
