In St. Petersburg, the first center in Russia where stem cells will become an accessible and officially recognized part of treatment for pets will open on August 28. Previously, such methods were used only on an occasional basis, but now the center will offer a complete process: diagnosis, collection of biological material, isolation of stem cells, and their injection into pets, followed by rehabilitation.
The key innovation is its own laboratory for growing cells, which makes it possible to apply cell therapy to treat neurological disorders and joint diseases in dogs and cats without complex surgeries. This is intended to speed up and simplify animals’ recovery.
The center also notes that this therapy potentially may extend pets’ lives by 1.5–2 times and could change the standard of veterinary care in Russia by making it more modern and effective.
