In Australia, a 40-year-old man became the first person to live for more than 100 days with the BiVACOR artificial heart. The operation took place in Sydney in November 2024, and in early March 2025 the patient successfully received a donor organ.

BiVACOR is a titanium pump that replaces the heart’s function without valves and moves blood between two chambers using a magnetically levitating rotor. The absence of friction reduces the risk of wear and possible failures.

The longest previous use of the device was 27 days. In the future, the titanium heart could become not just a temporary solution but a full replacement for donor organs, radically changing the future of transplantation.
