When it comes to age, people tend to sigh resignedly. However, aging is not some kind of apocalypse. Not everything goes downhill with age: there are pleasant bonuses too.

People over 65 experience stress more calmly. They have lower levels of cortisol — the stress hormone. Emotional intelligence and resilience to negativity are higher, too. If emotions used to be suppressed, now they are reinterpreted more wisely. Reactions do become slower, but reserves of knowledge and life experience only grow stronger. In science, this is called “crystallized intelligence,” and in everyday life — simply wisdom.

In mature age, other people’s opinions matter less. And this is not cynicism, but a shift in priorities. When you realize that time is not an endless resource, you begin to value what really matters. Intimacy? No, it does not disappear with age. Moreover, for many it even gets better. This is especially true for women: after 55, many say they feel more satisfied.

More and more new studies show that the level of happiness can rise even after 60. And many people remember midlife as one of the happiest stages.

Mindset matters. How you feel about aging directly affects your health and even your lifespan. People with a positive view of age live, on average, 7.5 years longer.

It turns out that growing older is not only about pills, glasses, and wool socks. It is also about freedom from stress, confidence, wisdom, and stable relationships. So maybe it is time not to fear aging, but to prepare for it as an interesting journey?
