Italian newspaper Il Foglio has published the world’s first printed issue created entirely by artificial intelligence. The four-page edition, available at newsstands and online, is part of an experiment aimed at examining AI’s impact on journalism and society.
All the articles, headlines, quotes and even humorous elements were generated by a neural network. The front page features articles about Trump, Putin and a tax reform in Italy that led to pay rises for 750,000 people.
On the last page, AI answers readers’ letters, acknowledging its limitations with a touch of self-irony: “Artificial intelligence is a great innovation, but it still can’t order a coffee with sugar without making a mistake.” Editor Claudio Cerasa stresses that the issue is an attempt to understand where the machine’s capabilities end and human work begins.
Would you read a newspaper written entirely by a neural network?
