In ChatGPT, group chats are now available to all users, including free accounts. Up to 20 people can take part in a conversation at the same time and chat with the AI, turning the platform into a space for joint planning, discussion and creativity.
Group chats let users use ChatGPT to search for information, structure ideas and make decisions. Each participant is asked to create a mini-profile, and the AI joins the conversation on request, staying flexible and unobtrusive. Privacy remains individual for everyone, with settings and memory kept personal.
The feature launched just a week after pilot testing in Japan and New Zealand and became a natural continuation of OpenAI's large-scale updates, including the release of GPT-5.1 and the Sora app. The new tool makes collaborative work with AI easier and more efficient, both in everyday life and in professional settings.
