A first-in-the-world molecular vaccine against cat allergy has been developed. It blocks three major cat allergens at once: Fel d 1, Fel d 4, and Fel d 7.
PreS-Cat 1–5 is designed to be safe, not to cause severe side effects, and to work faster and more precisely than traditional options. Two injections are sufficient to trigger a protective immune response comparable to 6–15 injections of older treatments. Unlike previous approaches, it aims not only to reduce symptoms but also to help build immune resilience to allergens.
The product is based on the PreS protein vector used in a hepatitis B vaccine. This is expected to make it easier to scale up and technically simpler for mass production.
The future of anti-allergy therapy, according to the authors, lies in targeted and gentle molecular vaccines that can not only suppress symptoms, but also teach the immune system to stop “arguing” with cat allergens.
