In 2024, a neural network for the first time surpassed humans in the number of missing people it found as part of the work of the LizaAlert search team. The system analyzes aerial photos in just 1–1.5 seconds, while a person takes up to 10 minutes to do the same work. This has sharply increased and improved the effectiveness of searches.

Along with AI, the team has introduced other innovations. Digital radio communications allow coordinators to track the location of all groups in real time, improving the safety of volunteers. A new training system for search dogs has also been launched, focused on work in forests rather than only among rubble. More than 800 canine teams are currently involved in the effort or preparing to take part.

LizaAlert shows how technology and human experience can be combined for a common goal—saving lives.
