Football is serious business. Especially when it takes place... at an altitude of 1,800 meters. Yes, you read that right. A Russian team of extreme athletes played a full match on a platform suspended beneath a hot-air balloon. Everything was real: the pitch, the goals, the referee and even the arguments between players.
The project was led by athlete and gymnast Sergey Boytsov. The total weight of the structure, including the people and equipment, was more than 2.5 tons. To make the idea happen, it took 700 hours of work and enormous patience: they waited months for weather conditions and persuaded engineers for weeks. In the end, the match took place — and became an official world record.
Over an hour and a half, balls were sent into the abyss with enviable regularity, and one of the players jumped down with a parachute after scoring a goal. The video drew millions of views, and viewers were thrilled.
The record has been officially recognized: the world's first football match at altitude carried out in compliance with all safety standards. The project brought together sport, engineering daring and creativity, and showed that 'impossible' is just a word until a team comes along that simply does it.
