In the European Union, rules on transparency for content created or altered with the help of AI are beginning to take effect. In some cases, clear labels will be required, and machine-readable markers will have to be embedded in digital content so its origin can be identified.
For Meta, this approach is nothing new: since 2024, the company has used the label "AI Data" for content created or substantially altered with AI. Now a practice once limited to individual platforms is gradually becoming a legal norm. China, for example, introduced mandatory rules on AI content labelling in September 2025.
It seems a new standard for the digital world is taking shape: users should understand not only what they are seeing, but also how it was created. AI content is gradually getting its own "label" — roughly like a product in a store gets ingredients and manufacturer information.
