In a protected area in the Czech region of Brdy, unexpected help to the authorities came from a beaver colony: they built a dam on exactly the spot where local officials had planned to construct it. The project was developed by local administrations starting in 2018, but it was delayed due to bureaucratic issues and disputes over ownership rights.
A group of eight beavers completed all the work in just one night, thereby saving the state roughly $1.2 million. The beavers not only built the dam, but also selected a location that was ideal for the ecosystem.
In the view of ecologists, these “beaver” dams serve for a long time and provide excellent conditions for rare animal species, helping to keep the water levels required in the region.
