At the international airports of Jakarta and Surabaya, passport and immigration checks at counters have been abandoned for the first time in the world. Instead, passengers cross the border using Seamless Corridor technology — without stopping or queuing. Identification takes place automatically while moving through the corridor: cameras, sensors and artificial intelligence recognize the face and match it with biometric data submitted in advance.
Passengers upload all required documents beforehand through the All Indonesia app, which combines migration, customs and health data. The immigration service decides on admission before arrival, so no paper forms need to be filled out and no passport has to be shown to an officer on arrival. The old control system is used only if the traveller’s identity cannot be recognized automatically.
The technology was developed by Amadeus and is based on computer vision systems. Particular attention has been paid to data protection: biometric information remains with the user and is transferred only with their consent. Three “seamless” corridors are currently operating at the airports, primarily for elderly people and passengers with limited mobility. The system is planned to be opened to all travellers later, which would speed up processing at airports with high passenger volumes.
