Apple and Google have signed a multi-year agreement that takes Siri to a new level. Apple’s virtual assistant will now use Google Gemini artificial intelligence technology. The company confirmed that it chose this platform for its ability to carry on more complex conversations, better understand context, and adapt to the user.

Importantly, the agreement does not end Apple’s collaboration with OpenAI — ChatGPT will continue to be used in certain Siri scenarios. At the same time, Apple now has the flexibility to combine the best AI developments from two market leaders.

For Google, the agreement is confirmation of its growing influence in cloud AI services. And for users, it marks the moment when Siri finally begins to justify its existence.
